01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Cutting into the puffed, freshly baked pizza crust that covers the bowl releases an aromatic steam of tomato and delicate dashi broth. Bomba udon, Rurio's signature dish, hides chewy noodles within a savoury soup of bacon and cheese, designed to be enjoyed alongside bites of the fragrant, browned crust. While drawing directly from Italian techniques, the broth maintains a solid foundation of dashi flavour, delivering an immediate sense of comfort with every spoonful.

The creative udon selection is wide-ranging, featuring options like beef tendon arrabbiata, carbonara, pumpkin cream, and spicy cod roe udon crowned with a fluffy omelette. Classic tastes are just as well represented, including zaru or kamaage noodles served with crisp chicken tempura, as well as hearty beef tendon curry udon, making it easy to choose between traditional and Western-inspired flavours depending on your mood.

In the evening, the restaurant functions comfortably as a stop for drinks and small plates. Guests can linger over dashimaki rolled omelette, grilled squid seasoned with garlic soy sauce, or wasabi-spiced potato salad while exploring an umeshu list ordered by number from sweet to dry. When choices prove tough, the 3-variety plum liqueur tasting flight served on the rocks is an ideal way to compare distinct aromas and palates.

At lunch, the kitchen provides daily sets complete with side dishes and rice, with noodle portions adjustable to preference. Seating includes regular tables as well as raised tatami-mat spaces, and payment is cash only.
